Hello My Name Is...
First of all, I’d like to welcome you and your students to a new school year here at Patrick Henry Middle School! Our 8th grade American History is a year-long class consisting of American History A and American History B.
The purpose of this course of instruction is to provide students with a thorough understanding of the development of our nation through analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. History is central to our understanding of the human experience and the study of the past allows us to place our world in context. The skills of the historian-- the ability to do research in original sources, to think critically, and to write clearly and persuasively/argumentatively--are highly valued in our changing world.
Your student will need the following materials for this class every day:
Pen or pencil
2-pocket folder or 3-ring binder for American History
PHMS planner for homework assignments and daily agendas
As always, I will strive to make this a successful year for all of my students. In return, I expect each student to put forth a similar effort, by doing the best work that she or he can do and by keeping up with homework assignments. I will need your help and support. Please check your student’s PHMS planner every night. If you have any questions, or if I can help you in any way, please contact me immediately. You can reach me by calling: (734) 362-6100 ext. 2122 or email:firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
